Custom pixel art, hand-made Perler bead sprites, and digital illustration. Commissions are open most months. Here's what I make, what it costs, and how to request a piece.
What you can commission.
Custom pixel art (digital)
Original pixel art created to your brief. Character portraits, game assets, social media avatars, editorial illustrations, or personal pieces. I work at resolutions from 16x16 (icon-sized) up to 256x256 (large scene), with a standard palette of 16-32 colours per piece. Files delivered as PNG at the native resolution and at a scaled-up version for printing or web use.
Most common requests: pet portraits in pixel art style, custom profile pictures for Twitch/Discord, retro-style game sprites for indie developers, and commemorative pieces (wedding portraits, family scenes, house portraits done in pixel style).
Custom bead sprites (physical)
Hand-made Perler or Hama bead sprites of your design or based on a reference image. These are physical objects, assembled bead by bead on pegboards, ironed, and shipped to you. Small sprites (under 30x30 beads) are single-board pieces. Larger sprites use interlocking boards and can go up to 100x100 beads or more for wall-mounted display pieces.
Popular commissions include: favourite video game characters, custom pet portraits, wedding or anniversary pixel portraits, company logos for office display, and matching pair sprites for gifts.
Digital illustration (non-pixel)
Traditional digital illustration in a warm, playful style. Brand identities, social media templates, editorial spots, and small-business marketing materials. This is the newer side of the practice and takes fewer commissions per month. Portfolio examples are in the gallery.
Pricing guide.
Pixel art (digital)
- 16x16 to 32x32 sprite: $50-$80
- 64x64 character or portrait: $100-$150
- 128x128 detailed scene: $200-$350
- 256x256 large scene or panorama: $400-$600
- Animation (per frame, added to base price): +$20-$40
Bead sprites (physical)
- Small sprite (under 30x30, approx. 15cm): $30-$60
- Medium sprite (30x60, approx. 30cm): $80-$150
- Large sprite (60x60+, display piece): $200-$400
- Extra-large (100x100+, wall mount): quoted individually
Bead sprite prices include materials and domestic US shipping. International shipping is quoted separately. Display mounting (wooden frame, standoff mounts) is available as an add-on.
Digital illustration
- Social media asset or avatar: $100-$200
- Brand identity package: $500-$1,200
- Editorial illustration: $200-$500 depending on usage rights
How it works.
- Email your request. Tell me what you want, include any reference images or inspiration, and mention the size and format. The more detail the better, but vague starting points are fine too.
- Quote and timeline. I'll reply within 48 hours with a price, estimated delivery date, and any clarifying questions. For pixel art, I'll include a rough colour palette for approval.
- Deposit. 50% upfront via PayPal. Work begins when the deposit clears.
- Work-in-progress check. For pixel art and illustration, I send a mid-point screenshot for feedback before finishing. For bead sprites, I send a photo of the completed sprite before ironing (the last step before it's permanent).
- Delivery. Digital files by email. Physical sprites shipped tracked and insured within 3 business days of final approval.
Current queue and turnaround
Typical turnaround is 1-2 weeks for digital commissions and 2-3 weeks for physical bead sprites (longer for extra-large pieces). The queue varies month to month. If there's a deadline involved (birthday, event, holiday), mention it in the initial email and I'll let you know if it's achievable.
